Located on the main street of Wanaka sits the Federal Diner. From the first impression, right through to the last crumb on my plate, it’s a visual feast of sorts, served up in an industrial interior with concrete polished floors and an A-frame ceiling, lined with industrial lampshades. With items on the menu like “The Hungry Aucklander” which is basically fancy French toast, and the “Hawea Flat”, a spinach, mushroom and haloumi extravaganza, it’s safe to say that most taste buds are well catered for here. I settled on the “Son Marco” roasted beetroot salad. Make this place an all day affair, their more than adequate wine list sporting regional favourites like Quartz Reef bubbles and Awawhiti pinot noir, make for the perfect companions.
