I can’t help it: I love the Melbourne Museum. As a young lad I can remember the furore around the opening of Te Papa, and although I made a number of trips to Wellington to see mechanical dinosaurs and earthquake-themed amusement rides, I never really got what I dreamed I might. Over a decade later and I’m still no closer to being a grown up, and I am still thrilled at the sight of moving parts on a grand scale, and an excuse for adventure under the guise of fact-finding. At the Melbourne Museum there is lots to discover; there’s all sorts of bits about the human body to figure out, including a picture of a guy getting electro-shock therapy, a massive whale skeleton, and an indoor garden that looks like Michael Bay might have art directed it.
