A Mecca for lovers of oatmeal, Grød is little more than a hole in wall located in Nørrebro – a district on the western side of the Copenhagen’s central canal. Here you’ll find one thing and one thing only: porridge. Visitors and locals flock to sample both the sweet and, yes, savoury varieties that mainly involve fresh fruit, nuts and some local delicacies such as the strained Danish yoghurt, skyr.

One of the most popular options has to be the fresh apple, dulce de leche and roast almonds, while mine — the fig with roast hazelnuts and cacao nibs —  was the perfect way to warm up on a fresh afternoon. The coffee is great too.
