You wouldn’t be in Melbourne if you didn’t have to search an alleyway for the entrance to a restaurant. Yu U Japanese restaurant is tucked away just off Flinders Lane behind a rusty pink door. There’s no signage, but once through the door and down the stairs you are suddenly in a sophisticated and authentic style Japanese eatery. Famous for its delicious set lunch options, of which the menu changes daily and are served as a series of small dishes, there’s also a well regarded A La Carte menu. There’s minimal seating and it fills up pretty fast so best to either book or get in early.
