The High Line was originally built as an elevated railway so freight wagons could travel along Manhattan’s lower west side without squashing pedestrians. Now the trains are gone and the pedestrians have claimed the views, turning the tracks into a mile long public park, filled with green spaces, performance places and tasty street food.
