Dover Street Market was opened by Rei Kawabuko, the founder of Comme Des Garcons. Located in the heart of Ginza, the traditional and glitzy home of luxury flagships and department stores, Dover Street Market is based on the store of the same name (also opened by Rei Kawabuko) in London. It’s a mini department store exquisitely curated with some of the most cutting edge, high-end designers from Japan and abroad. It’s worth visiting for the building design alone, and the chance to pick up one-off collaborations and exclusives from some of Japan’s top designers including Comme des Garcons, Bathing Ape and others is just a bonus. If the price tags make your eyes boggle, head over the internal foot bridges to the 12-storey Ginza flagship of Uniqlo, a Japanese chain stocked high with low-priced, well-designed basics that is taking the world by storm.
