Nestled amongst the stylish interior design stores that line Meguro-dori, Claska Hotel is the place where local and international creative types choose to rest their weary heads. After an inspired renovation by Tei Shuwa and the British design firm Tomato, this 60s business hotel was reborn with an urbane, minimalist aesthetic that incorporates elements of the original’s modernist charm. The Japanese Modern rooms feature dark wood, an ochre colour palette and classic bespoke furniture, while the Tatami rooms are a modern spin on a traditional ryokan bedroom: think sliding paper screen doors, crisp white cotton and blonde wood accents. There’s plenty on offer to tempt you out of your stylish confines: contemporary Japanese and European fare in the sleek Kiokuh restaurant/cafe, displays of designer curios in the second floor Gallery & Shop Do, and custom made Tokyobikes for guests to explore the area on. The hotel is also a magnet for local scenesters who come for its regular art and design events, or to simply schmooze in the lobby. Unique, stylish and supremely comfortable, Claska is an essential reservation for your Tokyo itinerary.
